- Department of Nursing, Jessenius Medical Faculty in Martin, Comenius University in Bratislava
Introduction: Bronchial asthma is a chronic respiratory disease. Despite progress in diagnosis and pharmacotherapy, there is a progressive increase in the incidence and prevalence of asthma in our country. This entails increasing the cost of treatment but also health and social problems. The objective of asthma management, involving self-management is to control bronchial asthma. Goals: The aim of our study was to determine whether patients have their disease under control and whether there is a difference in asthma control between the sexes. We examined the relationship between asthma control and length of disease duration. Another objective was to determine, whether there is the need to develop an educational program self-management for asthmatic patients.
Methodology: In a group of 297 respondents we used for testing control asthma standardized and valid instrument The Asthma Control Test. For statistical data processing were used: Pearson chi-square test (x2), Spearman correlation coefficient and nonparametric alternative to one-way ANOVA test (Kruskal-Walis test). Outcome and Discussion: By the score The Asthma Control Test majority of respondents had asthma without checking 178 (59, 9 %; asthma control score
