Benefits of measuring tools in nursing care about patient with dementia

Purpose: The aim of the case study is present of using tools Clock Drawing Test (CDT), Standardized Mini-Mental State Examination (SMMSE), Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form (GDS15) in planning nursing care, specifically for choosing tasks for cognitive rehabilitation of patient with dementia.

Methods: In the case study are introduced using of measure tools in cognitive rehabilitation of patient with Dementia of the Alzheimer's type. CDT, SMMSE, GDS15 was administered before beginning cognitive rehabilitation and their scores influenced of choosing tasks for cognitive rehabilitation.

Result: SMMSE provides objective data for diagnose of nursing diagnosing Chronic confusion 00129. Scores of CDT and SMMSE aren't identical with by physician appointed cognitive disorder. Choosing of tasks for cognitive rehabilitation according to scores SMMSE and CDT patient didn't accept positively in all range.

Conclusion: Scores CDT, SMMSE, GDS15 have meaning as sources of objective data for cognitive rehabilitation, only with connection with another date about patient, e. g clinical status, examinee's health history, history of cognitive decline, physical examination, occupation, area of interests.
