Features of palliative nursing care in neonatology

Aim: The aim of the article is to identify problems emerging in the nursing care of dying and dead newborn in studied domains: nurse and dying; dying in relation to the nurse, newborn and parent; dying in relation to nurse and supporting persons.

Method: We have used the method of semi-structured interview to collect empirical data, the interview was analysed and evaluated by the qualitative method of case study. Outcomes: The nurses have identified most emerging problems in the fields of the environment, privacy and intimacy, gaining information, communication and support the parents and staff.

Conclusion: Despite nurses working in the field of newborn intensive care units do implement some features of palliative nursing care to performance of their work they don't have enough knowledge and skills in this field, that's why different ways in providing palliative nursing care in neonatology occur.
