The problem of screening in prevention of diabetic foot ulcerations and amputations

Objectives: To find out and compare risk factors in group of patients with diabetes mellitus typ 2 without and with diabetic foot syndrome.

Methods: On the basis of interview and screening examination we have tested presence of risk factors as an ischemia, simultaneous presence of retinopathy, nephropathy, polyneuropathy, age and gender.

Results: The significant statistics findings among patients without diabetic foot syndrome were that they have participated at education and have had high score of knowledge in foot care, it have been interesting.

Conclusion: Risk factors are possible to find out by simple screening, it should be in competences of nurse. The findings of screening examination are sources of nursing education in diabetes self-management, inspection and foot care and help to choose suitable shoes, what with that the risk of ulcers and amputations are decreased.
