Tools Standardized Mini-Mental state Examination and Functional Activities Questionnaire in assessment elders - pilot study

Cognitive dysfunction of elder's impact on functional status and level of selfcare. Progressive cognitive deficit is cause decrease of selfcare level, increase dependency in instrumental activities daily living and basal activities daily living.

Aim: Aim of empirical study is detect correlation between Standardized Mini-Mental Status Examination (SMMSE) and Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ) and refer to possibility using tools in assessment of elders.

Methods: Cognitive functions of 200 elders we assessed by SMMSE and level of selfcare by FAQ.

Results: We detected high negative correlation between total score SMMSE and FAQ, that low total score SMMSE increase total score FAQ.

Conclusions: SMMSE may be to supplement of selfcare assessment. FAQ may be to supplement of cognitive function assessment, even has got higher sensitivity for middle cognition impairment in comparison with SMMSE and detect decrease of selfcare within MCI.
